IN-HOME CARE IN CHARLOTTE

Restoring balance.
Supporting healing.

Gentle, individualized veterinary acupuncture and therapeutic laser care designed to support your pet’s comfort, mobility, and quality of life.

Balance begins with the body’s natural energy

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi—pronounced “chee”—refers to the vital energy that supports health, movement, healing, and balance. Qi travels throughout the body along pathways called meridians.

When Qi is flowing freely and in balance, the body is thought to be better able to maintain wellness and respond to stress, injury, illness, and the changes that come with aging.

Acupuncture stimulates specific points along these pathways to encourage balance, healthy circulation, relaxation, and the body’s natural healing processes.

Meet your veterinarian

Meet Dr. Z

I’m a veterinarian with a passion for helping pets feel their absolute best. I graduated from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008, and over the years I’ve had the privilege of caring for countless dogs and cats through every stage of their lives. My professional interests include dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and, most recently, veterinary acupuncture and laser therapy.

My journey with acupuncture actually began long before I became certified. As an undergraduate working in a veterinary hospital, I was introduced to veterinary acupuncture for the first time. I was fascinated by the idea of using this ancient healing modality alongside conventional veterinary medicine to help patients in a different way. I remember thinking, “I want to learn how to do this someday.”

That “someday” finally came in September 2022, when I became certified through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS).

Since becoming certified, acupuncture has become such a rewarding addition to my veterinary practice. I’ve had the opportunity to help patients with pain, mobility, chronic conditions, and other challenges—and, most importantly, I’ve seen firsthand how much these therapies can improve a pet’s comfort, function, and overall quality of life. There’s something incredibly special about watching a pet move more comfortably, enjoy their favorite activities again, or simply have more good days.

Why In-Home Care?

Care that meets your pet where they are.

In-home acupuncture and laser therapy allow me to provide personalized care in a familiar, comfortable environment. No stressful car ride. No crowded waiting room. Just your pet, in their own space, receiving individualized attention.

I also believe strongly in client education and communication. I want you to understand what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and how it can benefit your pet. My goal is for you to feel like a true partner in your pet’s care.

Whether your pet is slowing down with age, recovering from an injury, living with a chronic condition, or simply needs a little extra support to keep doing the things they love, I’m here to help them live their best, most comfortable life possible.

“Every pet deserves a little more pawsitivity, balance and magic”

Veterinary acupuncture

A safe, gentle, and minimally invasive therapy using very fine needles at specific points to stimulate the nervous system and encourage the body’s natural healing processes.

Supports circulation

May reduce pain & inflammation

Promotes relaxation

Complements conventional care

One of the wonderful things about veterinary acupuncture is that it generally does not hurt. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, and most pets tolerate their placement very well. Some patients may briefly feel a tiny pinch or sensation when a needle is inserted, but many become relaxed during their treatment and may even fall asleep.

Therapeutic laser

Cold light laser therapy, also known as photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), uses specific wavelengths of low-level light to support cellular activity and the body’s natural healing processes. Unlike surgical lasers, it does not cut, burn, or damage tissue.

Laser therapy treatments are typically comfortable and relaxing for pets. During treatment, the laser handpiece is gently moved over the targeted area, allowing the therapeutic light to reach the underlying tissues. Most pets simply relax during their session. There is no anesthesia or sedation required, and there is generally no recovery period, allowing your pet to return to their normal activities following treatment. Treatment frequency and duration will be determined based on your pet’s individual needs and response.

The combined approach

The Power of Combining Acupuncture and Laser Therapy

Acupuncture supports nervous system regulation, balance, pain management, and inflammation reduction, while laser therapy works at the cellular level to support circulation, cellular function, tissue repair, and healing.

Combining these complementary therapies allows us to approach your pet’s comfort and healing from multiple directions.

“When my 16-year-old Maltese, Buddy, lost the use of his hind legs, I was worried about his pain and quality of life. We decided to give acupuncture a try, and after just three treatments, Buddy walked again on Christmas Day—it felt like a Christmas miracle! From there, he continued to improve and was eventually able to walk and run again. He remained his happy, playful self for more than another year. I truly believe Dr. Z gave me precious extra time with Buddy, and I will be forever grateful for everything she did for him.”

“Not only did his mobility improve, but after his acupuncture sessions, he would go into full-on parkour mode around the backyard!”
